Determination of vanadium accumulation in onion root cells (Allium cep a L.) and its correlation with toxicity Biocell
Marcano,Letty; Carruyo,Ingrid; Fernández,Yusmary; Montiel,Xiomara; Torrealba,Zaida.
The vanadium is a metal that presents great interest from the toxicological point of view, because of the numerous alterations that can take place in different biological systems. This work evaluated the capacity of vanadium accumulation and its correlation with genotoxic effects in root cells of Allium cepa L. The bulbs were cultivated in renovated filtered water each 24 h, at a temperature of 25 ± 0.5 ° C, in darkness and constant aeration. Treatments were carried out under the same experimental conditions, using water solutions of vanadium of 25, 50, 75 and 100 µ g/g for 0, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h. A control was carried out where metal solution was substituted by distilled water. After the treatment, the meristems were fixed with alcohol - acetic acid (3:1)...

Distribution of vanadium in bottom sediments from the marine coastal area of the Egyptian seas OceanDocs
El-Moselhy, K.M..
The present study aims to measure the concentration of vanadium in 73 sediment samples collected along the coastal area of the Egyptian seas (Mediterranean and Red Seas). The results indicated that the mean value of vanadium in Red Sea sediments (52.61 µg/g) was higher than the mean value of the Mediterranean (40.58 µg/g) and the variation between the two means was insignificant (p = 0.241). This result could be attributed to the high petroleum activities of the Red Sea. Along the Mediterranean coast, the sector in front of Port Said area exhibited the highest mean value of vanadium (103.9 µg/g) than other sectors, which suffers from many sources of pollution. While the highest mean value along the Red Sea coast (73.20 µg/g) was found at the sector of Red...

Nickel and vanadium contamination of benthic invertebrates following the "Erika" wreck ArchiMer
Chiffoleau, Jean-francois; Chauvaud, Laurent; Amouroux, David; Barats, Aurélie; Dufour, Aurélie; Pecheyran, Christophe; Roux, Nathalie.
Levels of nickel and vanadium, trace metals found in high concentration in the oil spilled from the "Erika" tanker off Brittany (France) in December 1999 (41 +/- 1 and 87 +/- 3 mg kg(-1) respectively), have been monitored over a one-year period following this accidental event in several benthic invertebrates. Ni and V in mussels (Mytilus edulis) and oysters (Crassostrea gigas) soft tissues were analysed twice a month by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry and a scallop (Pecten maximus) shell daily growth bands were sampled every three bands by laser ablation and analysed by ICP-MS for these two contaminants. Survey data for mollusc tissues were compared with reference data arising from the national monitoring database. Ni concentrations in...
